F-15 jets training with A-10s at Gowen Field in Boise this month

BOISE, Idaho (KBOI) — The Idaho National Guard has announced that eight F-15C fighter jets will be stationed at Gowen Field this month for training.

The jets are from the Louisiana Air National Guard's 159th Fighter Wing.

The Guard says the jets are here to train with the A-10s during daylight hours in the air space used by the Guard.

The training starts this week and goes until July 27.

“Training with our Air National Guard brothers and sisters who operate different fighter aircraft is vital to maintaining a combat ready force,” said Col. Tim Donnellan, commander of the Idaho Air National Guard’s 124th Fighter Wing in a press release. “These are the same Airmen we partner with in combat and training with them face to face is an invaluable opportunity. This will increase the combat readiness of our pilots while also providing critical training to our A-10 maintainers and mission support personnel as they work on and around the F-15C.”

The Guard says this is an opportunity for the A-10 pilots, whose mission is normally more air-to-ground focused, to work on their air-to-air combat skills.

Col. Donnellan says that the additional jets will increase the flight noise in the surrounding area, but they are doing what they can to minimize it.
