The USC women’s basketball had a glorious day as JuJu Watkins, went on make history in their 67-58 win over the Stanford Cardinal. And it was a joyful sight. Juju went on to score 51 points that night, setting USC history. But despite garnishing all the attention, she was not going to take any disrespect towards her opponent. Not even on her cloud-9 moment.
After the game, Juju Watkins was interviewed and in what could possibly be described as a dig, the interview went on to playfully disrespect Caitlin Clark. “Caitlin Clark who?”, said the interviewer after mentioning that no player had scored more in a game than Watkins in this 2023-24 season. Juju was quick to react and retract the disrespect. She said:
Ah nah don't do that. Don't do that. Much respect there.
It was a historic night for the 18-year-old, but it was her generosity and respect that fans absolutely loved. As for the interviewer, fans did not agree with the question, on the internet.
As the clip went viral, it was the interviewer who got all the stick after her attempt to disrespect Caitlin Clark. And as much as Juju tried to stop her abruptly, the internet was already on for her neck.
The clip gained a lot of attention and criticism comments towards the interviewer. Some of them are given below:
While the incident may have been or will be an awkward situation, going forward, it has certainly served as a wake-up call for sports commentators. With respect to Caitlin Clark, fans will hoping for a response from the player as well.
