Tawny Willoughby, a 27-year-old mother two a two-year-old son, is suffering from skin cancer, which she blames on an obsession with tanning.
She’s posted a photo to prove how unhealthy that habit was. Check out her beautiful face before and after cancer took its toll in these images:
The Kentuckian was diagnosed with skin cancer at the young age of 21.
In order to prevent others from being a “statistic,” Tawny candidly displayed the scabs and blisters that have taken over her face since then.
“If anyone needs a little motivation to not lay in the tanning bed and sun here ya go! This is what skin cancer treatment can look like,” Tawny wrote.
The damage caused by tanning beds, she says, must be made clear.
As Tawny explained, “I did the bulk of my tanning in high school."
"I probably laid an average of 4-5 times a week (because my tan faded very fast). I never laid in the tanning bed and in the sun in the same day.”
In addition to undergoing procedures to treat five incidents of basal cell carcinoma, Tawny also visits the dermatologist every 6-12 months.
There, “she usually has a skin cancer removed at each checkup.”
On the bright side, she is counting her blessings in her moving message on social media, since she has not been diagnosed with melanoma.
“Don’t let tanning prevent you from seeing your children grow up. That’s my biggest fear now that I have a two-year old little boy of my own,” she says.
“Wear sunscreen and get a spray tan," she says, so you don’t end up like her. Remember, "You only get one skin and you should take care of it.”
